How close are we to scalable CGT manufacturing?

Industry leaders discuss how automation, digitalization and AI can support more scalable and repeatable cell and gene therapy manufacturing.

How close are we to scalable CGT manufacturing?

How close are we to making advanced therapy production more scalable and repeatable?

This question was explored during an IBTV Roving Reporter discussion recorded at Cell & Gene Meeting on the Med 2026 in Rome, organized by the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine (ARM).

The discussion brought together experts from across the advanced therapies sector, including Jon Alberdi, CEO of VIVEbiotech, to share perspectives on how automation, digitalization and emerging manufacturing approaches could help address key manufacturing challenges.

Asked about the growing momentum behind automation and decentralized manufacturing, Jon highlighted both the progress being made and the need to accelerate the adoption of new technologies.

In his opinion, we are all moving in that direction, but there is still a gap we need to bridge. AI and similar technologies are becoming increasingly important, and we all need to embrace them. The challenge now is to accelerate adoption so that everyone can fully benefit from these advances.
